[Avengers Fic] Floor Appreciation

Posted on 2014.08.14 at 18:21
I am here! I am alive! I have finished something! I would have posted this yesterday but I had a slight password issue with DW which thankfully is fixed now. I seem to be in an Avengers mood again and I was able to finally polish off this fic which was 99% complete three months ago. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish more of my incomplete Avengers fics before this mood passes.

Title: Floor Appreciation
Characters: Bruce, Tony, Dum-E, U
Rating/Warnings: G
Genre: Friendship, Hurt/Comfort, Humour
Word Count: 2359
Spoilers: None
Summary: Tony tries to appreciate the floor while Bruce tries to deal with the force that is Tony Stark.

Neil Gaiman talking about the author Harlan Ellison

"He said he wanted to demythologize the process of writing. He wanted to show people it was a craft like building a chair and mostly it was done by sitting there and staring at a blank piece of paper and hating everything."

[Avengers Fic] Friendship Magic

Posted on 2014.03.23 at 11:24
I actually finished something! And considering I started two other fics in the past week this is a very good thing.

This fic despite its cracky subject turned out surprisingly serious and fluffy. The whole nightshirt thing came up in my fic In the Company of Friends. It was just a random silly thing my brain came up with. My brain also fortunately provided the story behind it and this is me finally getting that story down.

Title: Friendship Magic
Characters: Clint and Natasha with cameos from various Avengers and Coulson
Rating/Warnings: G
Genre: Friendship, Fluff, Humour
Word Count: 2148
Spoilers: None
Summary: The tale of Clint Barton, Natasha Romanov, and the My Little Pony nightshirt.

[Avengers Fic] Patriotic Paint

Posted on 2013.12.06 at 11:45
Trying to tidy up my incomplete fanfic folder which is a giant mess. Twice as many unfinished fic involving three times as many fandoms as last year. Managed to finish this little thing (in other words added description to the diaolgue) which I initially wrote just to see if I could in fact write Tony Stark. It was supposed to be the start of something longer but I can no longer remember what that actually was.

Title: Patriotic Paint
Characters: Steve Rogers, Tony Stark
Rating/Warnings: G
Genre: Humour
Word Count: 500
Spoilers: None
Summary: There are certain dangers that come from living under the same roof as Tony Stark.

Patriotic PaintCollapse )

Not the Doctor Who fic I'm supposed to be working on but at least I finished something. This fic had one objective: get the Doctor into a bath. It was not as easy as I thought it would be.

Title: Of Frozen Time Lords and Rubber Ducks
Characters: 11th Doctor, Amy, Rory
Rating/Warnings: G
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Humour
Word Count: 4800
Spoilers: None
Summary: What to do with a delirious hypothermic Time Lord.

So apparently it's still possible for something to completely surprise me and blow my mind.

Spoilers for The Night of the Doctor minisodeCollapse )

Damn my perfectionistic nitpicky attitude to writing. I'm actually doing what I said I'd do and editing last years NaNo which I hadn't looked at in over a year. It's fun in some ways because I can look at my word count and say look I already have over 50,000 words, but my editing seems to involve rewriting things over and over again including trying desperately to add more substance to my bare bones writing and changing lots of small unimportant things. Like I said, I'm nitpicky. So only chapter 1 is done and I managed to add about 800 words to it. I'm only posting it here for now in case I find a major plot hole down the line and have to come back and change something.

This fic is, to be specific, a Torchwood + Martha & Mickey/8th Doctor Audio Adventures crossover, but hopefully someone will enjoy it. Its alternate title is What to do When You Find a Time Lord in Your Deep Freezer.

What Lies in Wait
Characters: Jack, Ianto, Gwen, Martha, Mickey, 8th Doctor
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Genre: Mystery
Word Count: 3500 (Chapter 1)
Spoilers: Takes place after the Doctor Who episode Journey's End and after the 8th Doctor audios To the Death & Dark Eyes.
Summary: When Martha agreed to help Jack do a little inventory she wasn't expecting to find a Time Lord frozen in his basement and she certainly wasn't expecting what happened when they woke him up.

NaNo or No NaNo?

Posted on 2013.10.31 at 17:09
I keep debating this but I don't think I'm doing NaNo this year. I haven't written anything for months. I just really haven't been up to it. NaNo could be the thing to get me back into writing, but I'm sick of writing things and not finishing them or making them good enough so they can be posted. What I'd really like to do instead of writing 50,000 words is edit 50,000 words. I want to edit last year's NaNo and post it. Considering how fussy I can be when editing this might take me just as long as it took to write it.

The Light at the End!

Posted on 2013.10.24 at 20:15
Have I ever mentioned how much I absolutely love Big Finish and its Doctor Who audios? I listen to their audios at night to help calm down the chaos of my mind so I can sleep and during the day to keep myself from becoming bored to death at work, and now after spending a week suffering from the worst cold I've had in ages, I find out they've gone and released their big 50th anniversary audio a month early!

Warehouse 13

Posted on 2013.07.27 at 21:17
So, I've finally gotten into Warehouse 13. It took me awhile. Actually, it took me three tries over a period of a year, but I'm definitely hooked now. It's a weird show. It's often overly cartoony and cheesy. So much so that it can be hard sometimes to take the serious bits seriously and there's some very serious bits in it. Also, the acting and storytelling quality can be very up and down, and I have to admit that being able to recognize over 90% of the guest stars tends to throw me off a bit. It's not just all the Star Trek and Joss Whedon alums and those who've appeared in other sci-fi/fantasy type shows (Supernatural, Dead Zone, etc) but also local Toronto actors from the Listener and Flashpoint.

But I am a sucker for a team as family shows and I seem to have fallen in love with Steve Jinks so as I said I'm hooked. It also seems to be a very fic-able (not an actual word but it should be) show. I've already got ideas for about ten different fics and I've stared three so far (one which is complete and should be up shortly). It's also very crossover-able (also not a word) so who knows where this will lead.

I was actually able to use the word 'mayhaps' in this fic! Posting this over a week after I posted it elsewhere, because I'm getting lazy again.

Various Things

1) I've been staying at my brother's place while cat sitting. The first night I woke up to find a cat on the bed. The second night I woke up to find two cats on the bed. The third night I woke up to find three cats on the bed. If I wake up on the fourth night and find four cats, I'll be very concerned since my brother and his girlfriend only actually have three cats.

2) There are biodegradable urns which can turn you into a tree after you die. I have no intention of dying anytime soon, but that's what I want when I do.

3) I've gone through all the prompts for [community profile] gen_battle and made a list of all the ones I'd like to write. I have 18. This may take some time.

Neil Gaiman's Calender of Tales

Posted on 2013.02.20 at 09:29

If you haven't heard yet, the author Neil Gaiman is doing this project called a Calender of Tales in which he posed 12 questions on twitter and then wrote 12 stories based on the answers he got. Now he's posted the stories and is asking people to create art based on them which will then be made up into a calender. This process of asking for prompts and having other people create art based on your writing is very familiar, and it suddenly struck me that this world-renowned, best selling author is doing what we fanfiction writers have been doing for years.

"There's lots of artists in the world, but there's only one you, and the only person who has your point of view is you. If you decide not to make things, all you've done is deprived the world of all the stuff only you could have brought to it ... The best part of actually writing is that sudden magical moment where there is something coming out of your pen that wasn't even there a second ago. Everything you've be writing up until that point suddenly magically comes together, and you, you're flying." ~ Neil Gaiman

I've been in a 'I hate everything I write and have ever written' mood for the past week. Hopefully, it'll pass soon and I'll be able to write again.

I am in the middle of writing an extremely long angsty hurt/comfort story. To compensate for that I'm also writing several short silly fluffy stories. This is the first one.

Random Fanfic Stuff

Posted on 2013.02.08 at 18:00
1) I finally updated my master fanfic lists on both DW and LJ for the first time in about a year. Apparently, I finished 13 fanfics last year which is more than I expected, but I'd love to try for even more this year.

2) I gave one of the characters I was writing about a headache and then got my own headache later in the day. I'm calling this fanfic karma.

3) I learn a lot of interesting things when researching for fanfics. I now know how to boil water in the wilderness when you don't have a proper pot.

4) I think I should write crossover fanfiction based on how my DVDs are mixed up. My Star Trek: Nemesis DVD is with my Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows DVDs, one of my Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows DVDs is with my Supernatural Season 1 DVDs, and one of my Supernatural Season 1 DVDs is with my Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring DVDs. Or maybe I should just stop being so lazy when taking DVDs out of my DVD player.

5) I'm currently writing The Hobbit fanfics, which means there are now at least 14 fandoms which I've written fanfic in.

I'm bad at posting

Posted on 2013.01.12 at 13:21
Somehow all the things I plan to post about never actually get written down and posted. Now I'm trying to think about all the things over the past month that I meant to write about.

Christmas was good. We saw the Les Miserable movie, exchanged presents, had dinner. None of my family is overly-enthusiastic about Christmas or has really gotten into the tradition of traveling far to have Christmas which means I usually just spend it with those few who live an hour or so away. This seems to be the geeky part of my family. Discussion at dinner included computers, video games, anime, fantasy novels, and Doctor Who.

New Year's resolutions: Um... read more, write more, dance more, and get a new pot for my bonsai tree.

I've mostly been writing Flashpoint and The Listener fanfics recently and then not posting them here because I don't think anyone on my f-list watches those shows. I'll probably post them anyway at some point and your f-lists will suddenly be overwhelmed with them. I hope to start working on a Flashpoint/The Listener crossover soon, and then when I done that maybe I'll work on editing my giant Doctor Who NaNoWriMo, and then maybe I'll tackle my unfinished Supernatural fics. Too many fandoms!! Too many plot bunnies!!
